First Day of Class

Today was a new day at Cal State L.A. filled with new classes and new expensive textbooks. Cal State L.A. is a small school that isn’t that well known but still finds a way to over charge for tuition. One of my new classes is Concept Development Art 220 taught by Jimmy Moss. I had heard rumors about Jimmy as a professor that he was very straightforward and could be a bit dick at times, honestly I found him to be a pretty cool dude and it seems that I could really learn a lot from him in the future. On one of our first discussions as a class we talked about a few words that would probably come up a lot during the quarter, one of the words being “idea”, it took us so long to define the word “idea”. What does it mean? It’s a four letter word that has so much meaning. Looking back, does any one ever tell you what that word means? Or do you just grow up expected to know that word? In the end the discussion led us to talking about red bull and other energy drinks, I still don’t know how that happen.

Jimmy gave us the first assignment and it all begins with an apple. He gave us an apple that we had to study for three minutes, it was one of those exercises in which we had to “see the apple, be the apple”. After three minutes my apple was an irregular shape, with a waxy texture that also shines, the apple has streaks of yellow and a lot of spots, the smell did not tell me if it was sweet or sour. For the rest of the quarter I have to observe this apple and render it in a different way for 5 times a week for 10 weeks, this should be interesting.
